America’s Baby Boomers are continuing their migration into retirement. There are roughly 46 million individuals in this demographic, and they are currently between the ages of 52 and 70. With over 10,000 Boomers turning 65 every day, they are significantly reshaping the way senior care is administered. And as a result, home healthcare franchises are on the rise.
“There is no question the Baby Boomers have much different plans for their retirement than previous generations,” says Paul Lindquist, owner of Franchise City. “They want to stay active as long as possible, and have no intention of going into a nursing home. To serve their needs, we have seen a major increase in home healthcare franchises for seniors.”
Earlier this year, two in-home senior care franchises made the top 10 list of the best franchises to invest in, a list that was compiled based on low SBA loan default rates. This is a strong indication that in home healthcare is a major growth industry, and is likely to continue as such for quite some time.
“The Baby Boomers are not even halfway into retirement yet,” Lindquist continues. “Many of them will still be working for the next decade or two. This means we have probably not come anywhere near the peak of the growth in this industry, and there is still ample opportunity for entrepreneurs to capitalize on this trend.”
What Makes a Successful Home Healthcare Franchisee?
Lindquist says success with in-home senior care does not necessarily require you to have a health care background.
“If you want to serve the seniors in your community, there are several different business models to choose from. Some involve providing in-home medical care, and for those, a healthcare background is certainly helpful. Many others, however, provide non-medical care at home; services such as companionship, shopping, meal preparation and light housekeeping. To be successful with this type of business, it is much more important to have strong entrepreneurial instincts. To find out which is right for you, the best place to start is by taking advantage of our free, unlimited franchise consulting. Through a multi-step process, we match you with the franchise opportunity that best fits your passion, skills and budget. And because we are not captive to any one particular franchise brand, we are able to provide objective guidance and put you in the business that’s right for you.”
