Two Boys in Aleppo

Two Boys in Aleppo:

In his Beast piece, Barnicle opines that Hillary “hasn’t been asked” about Aleppo – but that’s because there’s no need to ask. Her position is well-known. It was Hillary, while she was Secretary of State, who lobbied fiercely on behalf of Aleppo’s defenders – the “moderate” Islamic anti-government rebels – along with Gen. David Petraeus. Indeed, Petraeus pushed for allying with the local al-Qaeda affiliate, so eager was he to overthrow the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Oh, but these are the “moderate” faction of al-Qaeda, he assured us…

Standing with Syria

Standing with Syria:

President Obama has gotten a pass for almost eight years from self-styled anti-war elements that back his proxy war against Syria. Phony anti-warriors blame the Syrian government for resisting jihadist head-hunters in the pay of Washington and its allies. They have become supporters of state terror, and cannot comprehend that “there would not be bombs of any kind, sieges, starving children, or refugees” if the Obama had not launched his war.

Saudi-Led Air Strikes Kill At Least 21 Civilians in Yemen

Saudi-Led Air Strikes Kill At Least 21 Civilians in Yemen:

At least 21 civilians were killed in two separate air strikes by the Saudi-led coalition in northern Yemen on Saturday, residents said on Sunday, as fighting intensified in the country before the Muslim Eid al-Adha feast.

At least 15 civilians were killed when war planes struck workers drilling for water in the Beit Saadan area of the Arhab district north of Sanaa…

They said Saudi-led coalition warplanes bombed the site and killed four workers, and then conducted a second bomb run when residents of the village rushed to the scene, killing at least 11 more and wounding 20….

Local media put the number of dead and wounded at the water-drilling site at around 100 and published pictures of burned bodies and mangled equipment. Videos showed workers collecting mutilated bodies and carrying them away in blankets.

In a second attack, residents reported an air strike hit the home of Sheikh Maqbool al-Harmali, a local tribal chief in Hairan district of Hajjah province, killing six civilians.

Saudi Airstrikes Kill Nine Civilians in Yemeni Capital, Including Four Children

Saudi Airstrikes Kill Nine Civilians in Yemeni Capital, Including Four Children:

This latest strike killed at least nine civilians, including four children, while five other civilians who were within were wounded. It is unclear if this is all of the casualties, as all indications are that the workers are still trying to comb through the wreckage.

The Starvation of Yemen

The Starvation of Yemen:

Many Yemenis suffered from hunger before the war, but the war has made conditions dramatically worse for the entire population. All sides have used food as a weapon, but the coalition blockade has had by far the most severe effect on millions of people. Like other modern famines, the one that is being created in Yemen is entirely man-made, and the coalition and its Western backers bear the greatest responsibility for it. It could still be prevented if there were a concerted effort to save Yemen from starvation, but there seems to be very little interest in making that effort. All of the governments with the resources to do this are either oblivious to the need or complicit in creating the catastrophe.

The Deranged Belief That Obama Is ‘Allergic’ to Using Force

The Deranged Belief That Obama Is ‘Allergic’ to Using Force:

Contrary to the conventional view, Obama has not been averse to using or threatening to use force. He pretends to be reluctant to resort to force, and his domestic critics pretend to believe him, but he will leave office with the dubious distinction of having presided over eight uninterrupted years of war. He has continued wars that he inherited, he has started new ones during both terms, and he has lent U.S. support to the wars of clients that couldn’t have been fought without our backing.

US Killing Far More Civilians in Syria Than They’ll Admit

US Killing Far More Civilians in Syria Than They’ll Admit:

On July 19, US warplanes dropped bombs on a crowd of civilians in the Syrian village of Tokhar. When the dust cleared, a minimum of 95 people were killed, and some groups claimed that as the wounded began dying, the toll rose to nearly 200.

CENTCOM seems to accept the pieces of this story. There was definitely a crowd of civilians, and there were definitely US warplanes dropping 500-pound bombs on them, and those bombs definitely hit the target. Getting them to the part where bombing a bunch of civilians with deadly explosives meant killing them, however, is a herculean task.

US War Crimes or ‘Normalized Deviance’

US War Crimes or ‘Normalized Deviance’:

Although the U.S. government would not dare to formally renounce the Geneva Conventions, the normalization of deviance has effectively replaced them with elastic standards of behavior and accountability whose main purpose is to shield senior U.S. military officers and civilian officials from accountability for war crimes.
