Today, our Instagram story is a day in the life of Lady Gaga (@ladygaga), who is out promoting “Perfect Illusion,” her first new pop song in three years. “This record is about me personally as I bring the woman I was in the past into the woman I’ll be in the future,” the six-time Grammy winner told Fresh 102.7 FM in New York City on Monday, about her much-anticipated fifth album. “This is not me being like, ‘Oh, this is the real me, surprise!’ This is just where I am in my life right now, how I feel right now. I always change. Whenever I make a new record, it always teaches me something.”

Can you identify a familiar area in the northeast USA just from nighttime lights? It might be possible because many major cities are visible, including (right to left) New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Richmond and Norfolk – Boston of the USA’s Northeast megalopolis is not pictured. The featured image was taken in 2012 from the International Space Station. In the foreground are two Russian cargo ships with prominent solar panels. This Northeast megalopolis of the USA contains almost 20 percent of the people of the USA but only about 2 percent of the land area. Also known also as the Northeast Corridor and part of the Eastern Seaboard, about 10 percent of the world’s largest companies are headquartered here. The near continuity of the lights seem to add credence to the 1960s-era prediction that the entire stretch is evolving into one continuous city.

Illustrating Science and the Surreal with Lydia Ortiz
A childhood spent at museums combined with a lifetime of drawing prepared Lydia Ortiz (@lydia_ortiz) to illustrate the show “Dinosaurs Among Us” at the American Museum of Natural History (@amnh) in New York City. The exhibition explores the gradual transition of dinosaurs to birds through rare fossils and lifelike models of dinosaurs with stunning feathers. “It’s a mix of science and the surreal,” says Lydia, who joined about 50 other artists who were invited to an illustration event which was shared with the hashtag #eatdrawgram. “I kept drawing even when I got home from the museum,” she says. “I literally did not sleep that night from too much excitement.”
