Greek police said a helicopter carrying eight members of the Turkish military believed to have organized the failed coup in Turkey Friday night landed in their country seeking asylum on Saturday.
The surviving Turkish government has demanded immediate extradition of the “eight traitors,” who touched down in Alexandroupolis, a seaside city not far from the Turkish border.
The Greek government expressed support for the Turkish government and pledged to return the helicopter immediately, but said, “As far as the asylum seekers are concerned, we are going to proceed according to the international law,” taking into account that “the asylum seekers took part in a coup against the Turkish constitution.”
